Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls…
On 9th May 2022, St. Michael’s School, Durgapur celebrated Rabindra Jayanti to mark the 161st birth anniversary of Gurudeb Rabindranath Tagore. The programme began with garlanding the Nobel Laureate’s portrait and lighting of the lamp by the school Principal Mr Charles Joseph Nyss, Vice Principal Mrs Barnali Chattopadhyay and the Junior Section Headmistress, Mrs Sarika Khimla. It was accompanied by an endearing speech by our senior teacher Mrs. Anulekha Das Kanungo which set the tone of the day by paying a tribute to the legacy of the great poet and visionary. It was followed by a series of different colourful items by the students, consisting of a dance medley, a Bengali skit, English and Bengali recitations, and songs performed by the students as well as the teachers. The programme lifted a veil from the sombre, depressive atmosphere that was prevailing due to the pandemic. After a gap of two years, the teachers and the students came together to celebrate Rabindra Jayanti under the open sky which perfectly captured the mood of the day and made it memorable.
