NATIONAL YOUTH PARLIAMENT 2025-26

St. Michael’s School, Durgapur was indeed privileged to have hosted the Second National Youth Parliament, Kishore Sabha on Friday, 30th January, 2026.
Our distinguished guests, graced the occasion with their venerable presence. Dignitaries included the esteemed Board Members of the Diocese of Durgapur, Rotarian Mr.Pulak Kumar Bandopadhyay, IC Cyber Crime, Mr. Biswajit Mukherjee, Cardiologist, Dr. Rahul Bose of The Mission Hospital of Durgapur, Panchayat Pradhan of Gopalpur, Mrs. Shreenanda Roy Mahanty, President of WBVBDF, Mr. Kabi Ghosh, member of the Durgapur Press Club, Mr. Avijit Das and our ex- teachers Mrs. Nita Mitra Banerjee and Mrs. Malabika Mukherjee.
The event was conducted as a part of the nationwide project launched by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, to create an awareness among students about the functioning of the Indian democracy, especially the proceedings of the Lok Sabha; and to encourage the youth for active participation in nation-building.
The Odeum represented the House of People with about seventy youngsters enacting as our legislators.
The Youth Parliament was based on the theme of Indian leaders and politicians, where students enacted the roles of Members of Parliament, including the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, the Prime Minister, the Leader and members of the Opposition and other Cabinet Ministers. The session began with the formal opening of the House, followed by the Question Hour, Zero Hour and legislation marking the pertinent national issues. The members interpellated and answers as well as debates followed, reflecting real parliamentary procedures.
Participants displayed remarkable confidence, discipline and a deep understanding of the parliamentary etiquette. Important contemporary issues were discussed with clarity and responsibility, highlighting the importance of dialogue, democracy and constitutional values. The role of the Speaker was particularly commendable in maintaining order and ensuring the smooth conduct of the House.
Our honourable guests appreciated the efforts of our students. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by our Principal, who congratulated the organisers and students. The National Youth Parliament proved to be an enriching and enlightening experience, helping students develop leadership qualities, critical thinking and respect for democratic institutions.
