ALL INDIA ASISC FATHER GEORGE HESS MEMORIAL LITERARY COMPETITION 2026-27
The Fr. George Hess Memorial ASISC Regional Literary Competitions for West Bengal and North-East States were held on Saturday, 22nd August, 2026 at DPS Newtown, Kolkata.
St. Michael’s School, Durgapur participated in all four categories – Quiz, Debate, Declamation and Creative Writing.
1. Declamation Competition (Senior Category):
In the Senior Category, 11 participants from different zones competed, each allotted four minutes. The competition was highly competitive with talented speakers.
Ananya Halder of Class 12A brought laurels to the school by securing the Silver Medal in the Senior Category.
Shreyash Roy of Class 8B participated in the Sub-Junior Category and was awarded a participation certificate. He presented his passage with commendable conviction and poise.
2. Quiz Competition (Senior Category):
Having secured Gold at the Zonal level, our team qualified for the Regionals. The quiz comprised four rounds, including ‘Bounce and Pounce’ and Buzzer rounds, conducted by Quizmaster Mr. Shubham Lahoti. Among 11 participating schools, our team started strongly with 50 points and contended for the top three positions, ultimately finishing 5th.
Participants: Om Ranjan Pati (12A) and Akshat Singh (11A) were awarded participation certificates.
3. Debate Competition (Senior Category):
Participants: Rohit Mondal (12C) and Ritoja Dasgupta (11C). The topic was ‘Freedom of expression should be subject to reasonable restrictions.’ Both participants presented their arguments with clarity and commendable confidence and were awarded participation certificates.
4. Creative Writing Competition (Senior Category):
Participant: Shalini Ghosh (11C). The 11 participants were given 30 minutes for preparation in the library followed by 1 hour 20 minutes for writing. The topic, “Perfection is an Illusion”, was thought-provoking and tested originality and literary skill under time pressure. Shalini was awarded a participation certificate.
Overall, the event provided an enriching platform for our students to interact, compete and hone their literary skills at the regional level.
