THE FRANK ANTHONY MEMORIAL ALL-INDIA INTER-SCHOOL DEBATE COMPETITION 2026-27

St. Michael’s School, Durgapur, had the honour of participating in the prestigious Frank Anthony Memorial All-India Inter-School Debate Competition held on Friday, 24th July 2026. The preliminary round of the competition comprising 8 Schools was conducted simultaneously at two distinguished venues.

At Carmel Convent High School, Durgapur, our senior delegates, Rohit Mondal of Class 12C and Rayan Chakraborty of Class 12B, represented the school in Category I. The topic for debate was “Countries that pollute more should pay higher penalties.” We are pleased to announce that the team emerged victorious and has qualified for the Selection Stage. It is also a matter of great pride that Rohit Mondal was conferred the award for 1st Runner-up Speaker in the category.

Concurrently, at Calcutta Boys’ School, Asansol, Ayush Mukherjee of Class 10B and Sayantika Gorai of Class 10B represented our school in Category II. The topic for this category was “Ecotourism is more harmful than beneficial in practice.” Although they did not advance to the next stage, their performance was commendable and brought credit to the institution.

All our participants demonstrated remarkable clarity of thought, composure, and conviction. Their arguments were cogent and well-structured, earning appreciation from both the panel of judges and the audience present. In recognition of their participation and commitment, each student was awarded a Certificate of Participation. Such inter-school forums offer invaluable exposure to students and play a significant role in honing essential skills such as logical reasoning, effective articulation, and public speaking — areas to which the school remains deeply committed. The school management, staff, and students extend their sincere congratulations to Rohit Mondal, Rayan Chakraborty, Ayush Mukherjee and Sayantika Gorai for their dedication and exemplary conduct. We wish them continued success in all their future endeavours.
