WORKSHOP FOR EMPOWERING WOMEN 2026
In association with the IC of Bidhannagar Police Outpost, St . Michael’s School, Durgapur, organised a workshop for empowering the young girls on Wednesday, 11th February 2026, at the Odeum. It was a privilege to have the iconic Ms. P. Sameera Khan address the students with her thoughts that break down conventions and stereotypes of the society.
P. Sameera Khan is a mountaineer and a cyclist, who has covered more than 10000 kms in around 37 countries, studying different communities closely as well as their cultural and anthropological practices. She shared her experiences, ideas, beliefs and visions that inspired young girls to establish agency and bravely face the constraints that challenge their freedom of choice, decision making and self-expression. Her words were meant to spread awareness about the myriad social, cultural and religious malpractices that restrict women even today. She motivated the youngsters to strive for establishing the best version of themselves ignoring the bindings of the orthodox socio- cultural and religious orders. She gave them the hope and strength for an unfettered future of possibilities.
Girls of classes 6 to 9 and 11 attended the workshop. They could perfectly identify with the experiences shared and issues discussed upon. The workshop ended with a question answer session that reflected great enthusiasm among young girls to find answers to the unresolved issues that they face regularly in their personal lives. Her words have left behind a profound impact on the young minds to unfurl their wings of dreams and ambitions for a brighter, happier and satisfactory future.
